Vetiver extract

Aadrea Vetiver Absolute is a  premium extract from the rhizome Chrysopogon zizanioides, commonly known as vetiver or khus, a perennial bunchgrass of the family Poaceae. It is processed by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and steam distillation.

The extract is thick and ranges in colour from golden-brown to amber – brown to olive. It exudes a strong aroma that smells earthy, woody, and rich. The important compounds that impart the characteristic vetiver odor are: khusimene, δ-selinene, β-vetivenene, cyclocopacamphan- 12-ol, vetiselinenol, khusimol, isovalencenol, khusimone, α-vetivone, and β-vetivone.

The essential oil exhibits anti-septic, anti-spasmodic, and immune-stimulating properties. It is warming and sedative, stimulates circulation, soothes feelings of anger, anxiety, exhaustion, irritability, and stress.

How to Use:

Aromatherapy: The scent of Vetiver oil helps ease a stressed mind, which is known to consequently relax the body. It can boost libido as well. The essential oil can be diluted and diffused singly or in a blend. Vetiver blends well with several oils. Diffusing 5 drops of Vetiver  Oil for 30-60 minutes and deeply inhaling the scent can be beneficial for relieving or reducing stress as well as the symptoms of a headache. The same effect may be achieved by blending 2-3 drops each of Vetiver Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, and Lavender Essential Oil.

Perfumery: Manufacturers of men’s cologne use vetiver to create a fragrance many people describe as woodsy, earthy, sharp, eclectic, or exotic. Vetiver is also a popular ingredient in other fragrances, soap, and moisturizing cream.

Blemish control and Anti-aging: Vetiver oil contains antioxidants that can help reduce visible signs of aging on the skin, by eliminating toxins known as free radicals. Free radicals interrupt the body’s natural self-protective processes and can contribute to the appearance of aging skin. Vetiver oil can also help normalise oily skin and clear acne. Mix 1 to 2 drops of vetiver oil in every 10 drops of your carrier oil, such as jojoba oil or coconut oil, to start using it on your skin.

Massage and Spa therapy: Vetiver oil is sometimes inhaled as aromatherapy for nervousness, stress relief, insomnia, emotional traumas and shock, and joint and muscle pain. It is also used for arthritis, stings, and burns.

Side effects and management in event of misuse/ingestion

Wilful misuse of Vetiver oil can take the form of oral ingestion or use of undiluted concentrate in excess proportions. In both instances, decontamination will be necessary, and in the case of oral ingestion and allergic reaction, seek the help of a trained medical practitioner. In the case of skin reactions, consult a dermatologist.

Before Use

Vetiver extract carries very little risk of toxicity if you have no allergy to the vetiver plant, and it should be safe to apply topically to your skin. Always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil and do a patch test on a small section of your skin before applying it all over your body. Avoid using Vetiver oil around children, pets, or if you are pregnant. Store it out of reach of children.

Shelf-life Information

Our essential oils, oleoresins, absolutes and hydrosols have been made using an ideal and chemical neutral /free process of either steam distillation, cold press and supercritical extraction. The purity of the oils has been ensured by keeping the amount of hydration/water content and other elements at the lowest level. With this in mind, we are confident that the product will remain effective if you store it in its primary bottle/container, away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and minimize the periods the bottle is opened (during which the oil potentially gets exposed to oxygen).

Your essential oil should remain viable (with the full optimal potential to deliver the intended benefit) for an average of 36 months (3 years)*** from the date of its manufacture.
