Palmarosa essential oil

Aadrea Palmarosa essential oil is a high-quality essential oil with high efficacy, low toxicity and customer satisfaction.

The Palmarosa plant is also referred to as rosha; rosha grass; ginger grass and/or Indian Geranium.

Identification:

Palmarosa essential oil is a pale yellow to yellow clear mobile liquid, derived from the stock of Cymbopogon martinii, a specie of grass in the Poaceae family of grasses, native to the Tropics. Its scent is rose-like with grassy note.

The main active component(s) in a typical oil sample are Geraniol (75 – 85%), Geranyl acetate (5- 13%), Linalool (2 – 4%), Myrcene (0.5%), Nerol (1%), Limonene (0.5 – 1%), Citronellol and others.

Indications (benefits from use of product):

Palmarosa essential oil is a herbal extract / product and should be applied as explained below (See Dosage and application). The benefits of Palmarosa essential oil can be attributed to its potential properties as an antiseptic, antiviral, bactericidal, cytophylactic, digestive, febrifuge, and hydrating substance.

Geraniol acts as an effective antimicrobial and antibacterial agent. Geraniol may have antioxidant, antitumor, and anticancer properties. Studies have shown that geraniol can fight inflammatory responses in the body. It smells great!

Geranyl Acetate has good analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, affecting how the brain perceives pain signals. 

Myrcene is a popular flavouring and aroma agent (food additive) used in the manufacture of food and beverages; it also has several reported biological properties—anxiolytic, antioxidant, anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory, analgesic properties.

Nerol, like many other aldehyde terpenes, is naturally antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. It also promotes a gentle sedative effect and offers some minor pain relief.

Linalool has good sedative anti-inflammatory anti-anxiety and analgesic properties

Limonene is beneficial for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress, and possibly disease-preventing properties. It has been found to have strong anti-cancer properties in clinical trials.

Citronellol has strong insect repellent properties

Uses:

Ayurvedic medicine: Palmarosa has a long association with Ayurvedic medicine, an ancient traditional Indian form of treatment / therapy, based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit; the oil is applied to relieve skin ailments, nervous exhaustion, and as an aphrodisiac. 

Skin care: The oil possesses antioxidant, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which have been observed to make it beneficial for relief against Acne by potentially killing the bacteria that leads to pimples, as well as removing the excess skin cells and oils that clog pores, as a skin toner. Further benefits include relief against Eczema and psoriasis; the oil can be very soothing as it helps to reduce inflammation and acts as a barrier to stave off cracked, dry skin.

Palmarosa oil is cytophylactic in nature, which means that it may promote the growth of cells and recycling of the cellular matter. Thus, it helps repair the damages done to the body by aging, like natural wear and tear, as well as from wounds and various other factors. Since this oil also promotes the growth of the defensive cells of the body, it is considered a good way to strengthen the immune system. The oil’s antioxidants may help fight off the free radicals that lead to wrinkles and may also help the skin lock in moisture and reduce the appearance of scars.

Fever management: Because of its antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties, Palmarosa can help to cool down the body from high temperatures, reducing fevers. Whether the fever is due to a viral or bacterial infection, Palmarosa can reduce the fever, thus protecting the body from further damage.

Stress and anxiety relief: The oil is beneficial to relieve stress and anxiety through inhalation, diffusion, and aromatherapy.

Bug Repellent: Owing to its Citronellol and Geraniol content, Palmarosa oil is known to repel bugs such as mosquitoes and ants.

Cosmetic use: Palmarosa essential oil is a fixative which is found in soaps, perfumes, and cosmetics. Its unique rose-like scent enhances the fragrance of any cosmetic product and moisturizing the skin deeply. Moreover, when added to hair care product it improves the texture of the hair and reduces the hair fall.

How to Use:

Inhalation: Add 2-3 drops in handkerchief, place over nose and inhale.

Using a Diffuser/Humidifier: Apply 5-8 drops in diffuser of choice with clean water to generate the vapour. Palmarosa oil can be used singly, or in a blend with other aromatic oils to provide an enhanced effect.

Aromatherapy: Aadrea Palmarosa essential oil is used in aromatherapy, to relieve stress and anxiety, and a muscle relaxer. A carrier oil of choice should be selected before the dilution is done. Carrier oils are vegetable oils which reduce help the oil get into the skin, reducing the concentration without reducing potency. For every 5-10 drops of Palmarosa essential oil, use at least 10ml of carrier oil.

Blending: The essential oils of geranium, bergamot, rosemary, lime, and ylang-ylang blend very well with the essential oil of Palmarosa.

Aadrea Palmarosa essential oil is packaged in durable aluminum cans or labelled amber bottles with a dropper. Alternative packaging and seals will be specified as they become available.

Essential oils are volatile and lose their potency when exposed for long periods to oxygen and direct sunlight. Store the oil in its original sealed container, in a cool and dark space.

Before Use:

Palmarosa essential oil is generally considered safe when you use it correctly. However, while the oil has plenty of potential benefits, it can cause irritation if you have sensitive skin.

Before using any new products on the skin, do a patch test. If you have any health concerns, always check with a healthcare professional to see if Palmarosa is right for you. Avoid Palmarosa essential oil if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Shelf-life Information

Your essential oil should remain viable (with the full optimal potential to deliver the intended benefit) for an average of 36 months (3 years)*** from the date of its manufacture.
