Essential oils for cleaning
Essential oils for cleaning and sanitation present a better way to keep our living and work spaces hygienic and deodorised. These essential oils have disinfectant and anti-bacterial properties that help remove bacteria and virus germs and can get rid of mold and mildew. You can freshen bed and clothing, carpets and curtains using essential oil as a deodoriser. You could as well make an all-purpose cleaner with water, white vinegar, and a few drops of essential oils like lemon, tea tree, or lavender. The oils are good for clean floors, making windows and mirrors shine and cleaning kitchen countertops. Using other essential oils, you can sanitise and make your trash can smell better.
Pine, Lemon, lavender and orange essential oils have pleasant smells. They work well to deodorize surfaces, such as kitchen sinks, bathrooms, and carpets. Others are Clove, Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Peppermint and Tea Tree essential oils. Vinegar works as a great binder for essential oil and water molecules, when blending essential oils for cleaning and sanitation. Because of the acidity and strong odour of vinegar, an essential oil improves the aroma of solutions with vinegar as an ingredient. In addition to vinegar, you should always add an emulsifier. Emulsifiers include alcohol (a high grade type such as ethyl-alcohol or ethanol), aloe vera gel and gelatin. This ensures evenness of mix between the essential oil and water, and should be applied in a ratio of 1 : 1 of the emulsifier for essential oil.
Bath products made with essential oils
The best bath products are made by the most intuitive “Soper”, “Soaper”, or “Saboni” (Arabic for soap maker). A great aroma is a must have for your regular bath.
Your typical bath tablet weighs 100 – 200 grams. Adding 45 drops (approximately 1/4 volume of a 10ml essential oil bottle) of essential oil blend in the soap making process will impart a most refreshing aromatic bath experience. As a general rule, add up to 3% of essential oils to your soap mix. This means, for a 100 gram bar, you’ll need to add 3 grams, which is 3.3ml of essential oils. This works well for the rest of your body; however, you should add as little as 1% for soap for the face. This ensures you reduce any risk of irritation due to high concentration of oils. You may as well add the essential oils to a pre-made soap block, by melting it and adding the essential oil drops, before letting it solidify.
There are a good variety of fragrant oils to choose from. Essential oil blends consisting of different essential oils have the potential to improve your soap quality and nothing should prevent you from adventuring.
For the best soap blends, try combinations of essential oils. We recommend some essential oil types for soap making as cinnamon, orange, rosemary, clove leaf, pine, lavender, ylang ylang, vanilla, lemon, geranium among others.
